  1. Lavashadow gently nudged Havenpaw and the apprentice lowered her tail. It immediately began swishing in the grass and the young she-cat earned another nudge to keep her tail still. Eventually, once Lavashadow was convinced of Havenpaw’s hunter’s crouch, the older she-cat twitched her ear, signaling for the apprentice to continue forward.
Later, the pair entered the ThunderClan camp holding two mice (Havenpaw), a squirrel and a thrush (Lavashadow). They placed their prey on the prey pile and Lavashadow sent Havenpaw to deliver a few pieces of prey to the elders as she saw another ThunderClan warrior, Sparrowpelt, place a paw in her direction but hesitating when he spotted the apprentice. When Havenpaw departed, Sparrowpelt finally padded up to her and gently asked, “How are you doing? With Redpaw’s death, I mean.”
Lavashadow glanced at the entrance to the elder’s den, where her apprentice was closely listening to Sagefur the elder’s tale, and then carefully continued with her reply: “I’m- I’m okay, I guess. I- I really miss him but… but I know he’s safe with my mother and father in StarClan.”
“You’re dealing quite harshly with this, I see,” Sparrowpelt correctly commented. “It’s been quite a few moons and- and some of the Clan has the feeling that you’re blaming yourself.” He had hesitated in the last part of his sentence. Lavashadow looked into his blue eyes and meowed: “I’m doing okay. I know it’s foolish to blame myself, so instead I try not to think about the accident, I avoid the Thunderpath and am satisfied with Nightstripe’s exile. I know why he lured my brother to his death; he wanted to get back at me for refusing to be his mate. I never liked him, and I don’t know why he even asked me that. But Redpaw… that was taking it too-” Sparrowpelt shot her a sympathetic look as her voice caught and she couldn’t finish her sentence.
Embarrassed, Lavashadow dipped her head to the other warrior and abruptly turned away, heading out of camp and passing a returning patrol.
